IP Address Assignment

The IP address assignment types are described below.

Static IP address:

A predetermined fixed IP address is assigned to the printer (host) manually.

The information to connect to the network (Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS) needs to be entered manually.

The IP address does not change even when the device is turned off, so this is useful when using devices an environment where you cannot change the IP address or you want to manage devices using in the IP address. We recommend settings to the printer, server, and other devices on the network that many computers access. Also, when using security features such as IPsec / IP filtering, assign a fixed IP address so that the IP address does not change.

Automatic assignment by using DHCP function (dynamic IP address):

An IP address is assigned to the printer (host) automatically by the DHCP function of the server or router.

The information to connect to the network (Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS) is set automatically, so you can easily connect the device to the network.

If the device or the router is turned off, or depending on the DHCP server settings, the printer's IP address may change when reconnecting.

We recommend managing the device using a method other than the IP address and communicating with protocols that can follow the IP address even if it changes.

Note:

When you use the DHCP IP address reservation function, you can assign the same IP address to the devices at any time.
