Restricting USB Connections and Use of External Memory

You can disable the interface that is used to connect the device to the printer. Configure settings to restrict printing and scanning other than via network.

  • USB port control: Reduces the possibility of data being taken through unauthorized scanning of confidential documents.

  • USB connection of computer: Avoids unauthorized use of the device by prohibiting printing or scanning without going through the network.

Note:

You can also select settings on the printer's control panel.

  • Memory Device : Settings > General Settings > Printer Settings > Memory Device

  • PC Connection via USB : Settings > General Settings > Printer Settings > PC Connection via USB

  1. On a computer connected to the same network as the printer, open a browser and enter the printer's IP address.

    You can check the printer's IP address using the following menu.

    • Network connected to the printer's built-in LAN port
      Settings > General Settings > Network Settings ( > Standard) > Network Status > Wired LAN/Wi-Fi Status
    • Network connected to the Wireless LAN Interface-P1
      Settings > General Settings > Network Settings >Network Status > Wired LAN/Wi-Fi Status

  2. Enter the administrator password to log in as an administrator.

  3. Select these menu items in the following order.

    Product Security tab > External Interface

  4. Select Disable on the functions you want to restrict.

    Select Enable when you want to cancel controlling.

    • Memory Device
      Prohibit saving the data to external memory via USB port for external device connection.
    • PC connection via USB
      You can restrict the usage of the USB connection from the computer. If you want to restrict it, select Disable.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Check that the disabled port cannot be used.

    • Memory Device
      Confirm that there is no response when connecting a storage device such as USB memory to the external interface USB port.
    • PC connection via USB
      If the driver was installed on the computer
      Connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable, and then confirm that the printer does not print and scan.
      If the driver was not installed on the computer
      Windows:
      Open the device manager and keep it, connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable, and then confirm that the device manager's contents do not change.
      Mac OS:
      Connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable, and then confirm that the printer is not listed if you want to add the printer from Printers & Scanners.
