Aligning the Print Head

Adjusting the media feed

If you notice a misalignment of vertical lines or horizontal banding, you may be able to solve this problem by aligning the print head.
You can align the print head from your computer using the Print Head Alignment utility in your printer driver.
Note:
If you notice a pronounced misalignment of vertical lines, be sure to clean the print head first. For more information, see Cleaning the Print Head.
Follow these steps to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.
Make sure that no lights are indicating errors.
Make sure that paper is attached to the tractor unit.
Access the printer driver. See Using the Printer Driver.
Click the Utility tab, and then click the Print Head Alignment button.
Select Media Feed Adjustment, and then click Next.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
The following adjustment sheet is printed. Adjust the media feed according to the on-screen instructions while referring to the sheet.

Adjusting the bi-directional printing

This utility tool allows you to make adjustments if the vertical lines are misaligned.
Follow these steps to use Bi-D Adjustment.
Caution:
Do not turn off the printer while the printer is printing the adjustment patterns. Doing so may cause the printer to store incorrect settings. If you turned off the printer during the adjustment process, start Bi-D Adjustment again.
Make sure that no lights are indicating errors.
Make sure that paper is attached to the tractor unit.
Access the printer driver. See Using the Printer Driver.
Click the Utility tab, and then click the Print Head Alignment button.
Select Bi-directional Printing Adjustment, and then click Next.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
The following adjustment sheet is printed. Adjust the bi-directional printing according to the on-screen instructions while referring to the sheet.
Note:
Bi-directional printing may not be adjusted correctly if the paper is wavy. Clear the High Speed check box in the printer driver dialog box to perform adjustments correctly.
