Connecting to Android Devices using Wi-Fi Direct

This method allows you to connect the printer directly to your Android device without a wireless router.

You need to install the optional Wireless LAN Interface-P1 to use this function.

The following conditions are required to use this function. If your environment does not match these conditions, you can connect by selecting Wi-Fi Direct > Start Setup > Other OS Devices. See the related information link below for details on connecting.

  • Android 10 or later

  • A standard camera app to scan the QR code

  • Epson Smart Panel app, version 4.00 or later

Make sure to install Epson Smart Panel on the device beforehand. Once you have connected the printer to the mobile device, you can print from your mobile device using Epson Smart Panel.

Note:

You only need to configure these settings for the printer and the mobile device that you want to connect to once. Unless you disable Wi-Fi Direct or restore the network settings to their defaults, you do not need to configure these settings again.

  1. Tap on the home screen.

  2. Select Wi-Fi Direct.

  3. Select Start Setup.

  4. Select Android.

The QR code is displayed on the printer's control panel.

  5. On your Android device, start the standard Camera app, and then scan the QR code displayed on the printer's control panel in PHOTO mode.

Use the Camera app for Android version 10 or later. You cannot connect to the printer using the Camera app for Android 9 or earlier. Also, you cannot connect using an app for scanning QR codes. If you cannot connect, select Other OS Devices on the printer's control panel. See the related information link below for details on connecting.

  6. Tap the connect information displayed on the screen of the Android device.

  7. Tap Connection.

  8. Check that a message indicating that a connection has been established is displayed on the printer’s control panel, and then tap OK.

  9. Select Next.

  10. Select Complete.

  11. On the Android device, start Epson Smart Panel.

Epson Smart Panel automatically adds printers connected to your mobile device. Follow the on-screen instructions.

For mobile devices that have previously connected to the printer, select the printer's network name (SSID) on the device’s Wi-Fi screen to reconnect.
