Characters are not recognized accurately when saving in Microsoft(R) Word, Excel(R), or PowerPoint(R) format

Check the scanned originals.

The following types of originals may make it hard to recognize characters. Text in originals needs to be clearly typed or printed.

  • Color text

  • Cursive, italic, or other design fonts

  • Text with a font size of 6 points or less, or 45 points or more

  • Text on a colored background or shaded text

  • Text on ruled lines or underlined text

  • Originals with complicated layouts

  • Text with tightly spaced characters or line pitch

  • Faxes

  • Text that has been copied from other copies

  • Handwritten text

Are you using the correction function in Document Capture Pro?

Recognition accuracy may decline for originals that have a low contrast. To improve detection accuracy, try using the Text Enhancement function on the Scan screen or the Scan Settings screen.

Was the original rotated 90 or 180 degrees when it was scanned?

If the original is rotated 90 or 180 degrees when it is scanned, the text in the original cannot be recognized. Use the Rotation function on the Scan screen or the Scan Settings screen, and then scan again, or rotate manually using the “Rotate” function in the “Image tools”.

Is the text in the original at an angle and not horizontal?

If the text in the original is at an angle and not horizontal, it may not be recognized accurately. Use the Correct Skew function on the Scan screen or the Scan Settings screen, and then scan again, or manually correct skew using “Adjust Angle” in the “Image tools”.

Note:

Some items and settings may not be available depending on the scanner you are using.
