Creating a Network Folder

Create a network folder on your computer to save a file from the printer. The computer must be connected to the same network as the printer.

When saving files, the printer logs into the computer where the network folder is located as a user.

To create a network folder, follow the steps below in order.

1

Check and change the device name (computer name)

Check if there are any issues with the device name. The device name is required when registering the contacts.

2

Check and change the computer settings

Confirm that the computer is connected to the network and that access from the printer or other computers is allowed.

3

Create and set the network folder

Create a folder to be shared, and configure sharing settings so that the printer and other computers can access the folder. Two settings are required to share a folder.

  • Settings to make the folder can be find from other computers on the network

  • Detailed access permissions such as read and write access to the folder

Note:

The security and convenience of a network folder can vary depending on where it is created.

If you create a network folder on the desktop and set Everyone in the folder’s Sharing Permissions, you are granting access to all users who can access the folder over the network.

However, the user who does not have authority cannot access them because the desktop (folder) is under the control of the user folder, and then the security settings of the user folder are handed down to it. Only users or groups with access permissions set in the Security tab (on Mac OS, write permissions per user) can access the folder.

In the case of a file server, it is recommended to create the network folder directly under the drive or at the root of the drive to make it easier to manage access rights for multiple users. Refer to the procedure for creating a network folder and create it in an appropriate location.

After creating and configuring the network folder, check the MS Network settings in Web Config.
